Chula Vista Learning Community Charter

This mural was a born as collaboration with ArtReach, and Chula Vista Learning Community Charter School, particularly their 6th grade class. With an aim to highlight CVLCC’s values of pride, growth, creativity, the arts, and community, students collectively brainstormed and sketched ideas . As the lead artist, I was then tasked with compiling student sketches and staff input to create a cohesive, uplifting design.

Some student inspired ideas include poppies in bloom representing growth, passionflowers which grow in the school’s garden, a soccer ball and paint palette celebrating sports and the arts, and of course the school mascot- a jaguar. The paper airplane was a concept directly pulled from a student and reads “We grow together”, with a neighboring book reading “Crecemos como communidad”. This bilingual element celebrates the school’s unique dual-language curriculum.

Huge thank you to ArtReach for including me in this incredible project that completely transformed one of this school’s widely used common areas.
