Pacific Beach Alley
Commissioned by a private family, this mural diptych resides in the sunny Pacific Beach neighborhood of San Diego. With two garage doors as the canvas, my clients requested a vibrant piece that pays homage to the abundance of flora and fauna found locally as well as the owner’s love for music.
One species particularly treasured by Pacific Beach residents are the flocks of wild parrots that have settled in the area. The first reports of wild parrots in the San Diego trace back to the 1940’s when the exotic pet trade began to grow globally and birds were brought across the border from Mexico, some of which were later released or escaped.
Located adjacent to a primary school, several young artists visited me daily taking interest in my paints and process. After weeks of interacting, I invited one lizard loving 4 year old to add his own touch on the nearby telephone pole. He later became a student of mine and painted his own custom mural in his bedroom. The power of art to influence young creative minds is so cool to witness!
