Target x USSF

This vibrant community mural project at Ocean View Hills Elementary School in San Ysidro, San Diego was created in collaboration with Target Corporation and the United States Soccer Foundation as part of a nationwide initiative to build 100 mini soccer fields in underserved communities. The field is located on a dual-use space that students enjoy during the school day and that the surrounding community can access after school hours.

Phase one of the project was to build a mini soccer field enclosed by a protective windscreen printed with my artwork. The windscreen incorporated bright graphics and feel-good typography written in both English and Spanish to reflect the many native Spanish speakers who call this community home.

Adjacent to the field, are three large hand-painted handball walls designed to complement the field’s visual identity. The bold, colorful, and playful designs draw people into the space, encouraging youth and families to get active, gather together, and spend more time outdoors in a welcoming community environment.
